Link in bio: link safely without risking your account
For many creators the link in bio is their most important source of income on Instagram, and at the same time a common cause of trouble. How risky it is depends less on the link itself than on where it leads and how you point to it.
Why the link can be a risk
Instagram judges not only your posts but also your profile. If the link leads straight to explicit content or is pushed hard in captions, that can be treated as sexual solicitation.
The safe setup
- Your own unobtrusive homepage as the destination: your name, a few photos, a short intro.
- There, not on Instagram, the overview of your channels, behind an age check if needed.
- An email list on that page so you can reach your fans even after a ban.
What to avoid
- Constantly promoting the link in captions or comments
- Explicit wording in your bio
- Services that disguise where the link really goes. If noticed, it can look like an attempt to get around the rules.
Your own page belongs to you
Linktree and similar services are convenient, but they are not yours. Your own website with your own domain stays, even when a service or an account disappears, and it is the base for your email list.
