How to read your Instagram account status
Account status is the only place where Instagram openly tells you how it currently rates your account. If you check it regularly, you spot problems before your reach drops or your account is gone.
Where to find it
In the app settings, under “Account status”. Depending on the app version it may sit in a slightly different place. An orange exclamation mark on your profile picture means there are restrictions.

What the sections mean
- Features: what you currently cannot do, for example go live, and until when.
- Removed content: every removed post with reason and date. “Reviewed” means an appeal has been decided.
- Recommendations: whether your content is suggested to people who do not follow you yet. For reach, this is the key item.
What the categories reveal
The category shows where the problem is. “Nudity” refers to the image itself. “Sexual solicitation” reacts more to captions, emojis, calls to message you or hints at paid platforms. Watching both tells you whether to work on the video or on the text.
Why strikes add up
Every removal counts as a violation. Several violations lead to stricter restrictions and can end in a ban. According to Meta, strikes usually expire after one year. Until then, each further removal costs more than the one before.
How to use it well
- Check it once a week, especially after posts with a lot of skin or captions with links.
- Note removed posts: date, category, what was shown. That is how you spot patterns.
- Check before posting instead of appealing afterwards.
